ICON BUSINESS FORUM has a flying start

Entrepreneurs and start-ups have started attracting the interest of big-wigs what with Azim Premji picking up a stake in Flipkart and Narayan Murthy in Amazon.

A management consultant to industrialists, Tarun Agarwal has put together a forum for entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs and investors to take this trend to greater heights.

This week at Sydenham Institute of Management Studies for Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE), celebrated writer, Mayank Shekhar spoke of his journey as a columnist and now of his new avatar as a media entrepreneur. Along with him, consultant Chandni Sahgal, former CEO of Pritish Nandy Communications, spoke about media entrepreneurship and delved on the special demands of choosing entrepreneurship.

A mix of young businessmen from Manjar Productions, Blue Hill Darjeeling Tea, and Mantrana Maritime Advisory, who have built their own niche in their businesses, got into a round-table chat with Bindia Maheshwari, who is Western Region Operations – Head at Indian Angel Network (IAN).

Tarun Agarwal applauded IAN’s non-profit making model for getting entrepreneurs access to more than three hundred reputed investors. Serial entrepreneur Nayan Bheda discussed how he has always been successful getting investors for his business.

The event saw the release of ‘Business Manifesto’ a bold document on how much-needed economic change can be brought about through an inclusive system of entrepreneurship. Shiv Kanodia, Secretary of Bharat Merchants Chamber suggested that the inclusiveness of manifesto can be buttressed by the path shown by the likes of Narayan Murthy who has made his driver a millionaire by giving him a minuscule share. Journalist, Shashikant Sawant also said that he has never had any problems doing business with a human touch.

Atul Kulkarni, former CEO, Chowgule Ports, gave an inspiring address on the need to walk down the tough terrain of having one’s own turf.

The event ended on a high note with investment banker, Rahul Sakia offering to introduce the forum to several investors.
